Understanding the Work In Progress Dashboard
The Work In Progress dashboard in BigChange provides a comprehensive view of the financial status of ongoing or planned group jobs that have not yet been marked as financially complete. This tool allows users to assess the progress of these jobs towards financial completion.
Dashboard Business Rules
- Group Job Status: The dashboard displays group jobs with statuses 'Unscheduled', 'Scheduled', 'In Progress', and 'Completed'. It does not include jobs marked as 'Financially complete'.
- Financial Representation: The dashboard overlays financials from group jobs with associated documents to provide an accurate financial position. This includes invoices, pro forma invoices, and credit notes for actual profit and margin calculations.
Using the Dashboard
Please review the dashboard navigation video to understand how to navigate through this dashboard to get maximum value from it.
- Global Filters: Select the global filters icon to begin. Choose date types and ranges to view the financial position of group jobs.
- If you are looking for financial position of group jobs that are in future, select date type - Planned start at or Planned end at and choose the data range you want to see results for. Note that planned dates are represented on the Group job on the 'Detail' page as highlighted below.
- Currency: The default currency is British Pounds (GBP). To view data in a different currency, use the 'Currency' filter.
- Currency Conversion: Financial details are converted using the exchange rate from the day the line item was created. This applies to both job financial lines and financial documents.
Understanding Charts
Chart 1: Total Sales vs Invoiced & Uninvoiced
- Purpose: Displays expected revenue from group job sales, invoiced revenue, and uninvoiced revenue. For each month based on the date type selected in global filters
- Blue bar: Sum of sales price of all group jobs.
- Green bar: Sum of sales price from all invoices.
- Black bar: Difference between sales price and invoiced amount, adjusted for credit notes.
Click on each bar to view granular group job data that makes up the bar.
Chart 2: Total Costs vs PO Costs
- Purpose: Shows cost and purchase order cost trends for WIP group jobs for each month based on the date type selected in global filters
- Blue bar: Sum of cost price of all group jobs.
- Green bar: Sum of sales price from all POs, treated as cost price.
Click on each bar to view granular group job data that makes up the bar.
Summary Charts
- Purpose: Represent total figures for the selected date range giving you snapshot information across all days selected.
Details: Include Total Sales, Total Cost, Invoiced, and Uninvoiced card charts.
Chart 3A: Margin Trends
- Purpose: Displays trends in expected margin and actual margin percentage over time.
- Blue bar: Expected margin % calculated from group job lines only.
- Green bar: Actual margin % calculated using invoices.

Chart 3B: Profit Trends
- Purpose: Shows trends in expected and actual group job profit over time.
- Blue bar: Expected Net Profit from group job lines only.
- Green bar: Actual Net Profit calculated using invoices.
Chart 4A: Job Value by Job Category (Top 10)
- Purpose: Highlights the most valuable group job categories.
Chart 4B: Job Value by Job Owner (Top 10)
- Purpose: Highlights the most valuable group jobs by owners.
Operational Overview Charts
- Purpose: Represent the percentage of group jobs in each status giving you snapshot information across the date range selected.
Chart 5: Job Value by Contact (Top 10)
- Purpose: Highlights the most revenue-generating contacts.
