BigChange Dashcams: Setup, Maintenance and Features

This article provides a guide on how to setup, maintain, and use the features of BigChange Dashcams.

Understanding the Basic Configuration of BigChange Dashcams

  • The cameras will be linked to your vehicles within BigChange.
  • The camera can record audio, but this feature is turned off by default for security reasons.
  • The resolution and quality of footage is set by BigChange and cannot be changed for individual customers or cameras.

Storing and Accessing Footage

  • The Footage/Clips of events are kept on the Light Metrics portal for 2 months
  • The SD card will hold 2 weeks’ worth of clips and journeys, The footage is accessible using a third party app (Handbrake)
  • The cameras are cloud based and JobWatch accesses the video footage through API calls to the Light Metrics portal.
  • Light metrics is the third-party platform where all the configurations, Camera settings and events recordings are held

Triggering Events

The footage will only show if there is an event triggered within the camera. The events are trigged automatically by the following:
•  Harsh Acceleration
•  Harsh Breaking
•  Harsh cornering
•  Frontal Collision
•  Stop Sign Violation
•  Maximum speed (Currently set at 75mph)
•  Speed limit violation (Going by the road speeds)
•  Tailgating
•  Lane drift
•  Gaze down distraction
•  Cell phone distractions
•  Drowsy Driving (Beta feature)
•  Roll over detection
•  Possible collision

Troubleshooting

  • If the camera is not powering on, check if the power cable is connected securely and there is no loose contact. If the issue persists, raise a service call.
  • If ADAS Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) warnings are not being generated, confirm the driver's side setup, camera installation location, and camera height settings from the installation notes. If everything is correct, raise the issue with the Hardware team.
  • If Driver Management System (DMS) warnings are not being generated, confirm the driver's side setup, camera installation location, and camera height settings from the installation notes. If everything is correct, raise the issue with the Hardware team.
